That's what you think
I saw sonic youth last night. It was an awesome show...les georges opened for them, and they were HOT. the whole show was hot, except...

Thurston moore made some really derisive comment about this guy with a mowhawk that got crowd surfed onto the stage...dude grabbed onto kim gordon`s waist for about one second to get his balance before jumping back out, so thurston called him the`skeezy mowhawk guy` who touched kim, and said it was a nightmare? I thought it was really ill of him to burn the kid like that in front of thousands of people, and I guess I thought the whole no *touching* kim thing was a little aristocratic for rock and roll. It was weird. And everyone cheered eruptively when he said it for some really perplexing reason, one of a pavlovian nature i`m assuming. It was all a little depressing.

To be frank, I kind of think thurston and kim have exceeded the limits of acceptable coolness. I think they've gone beyond american cool into a rather european form. Its a little obnoxious. They maybe um...are a bit pretentious at times?

I know its a very unpopular stance to take these days, you know, to censure the duke and duchess like that, but whatever. They're so snooty sometimes, like their banter at shows, and in interviews, its irritating. And, this whole noise rock and *tape label* thing reeks of contrivance if you ask me. Its fine, its just too much man. Its like, dude, just cuz it doesn't sound like anything and its all obscure - probably because no one else really wants to hear it? - it doesn't mean its good.

I'm not saying *no* noise rock is good, but I'm friends with someone who plays in a band thats touring with them this summer, and let me say this; when two out of three members of a band don't actually know how to play their instruments, and really *really* like the monkeys, and kim gordon and thurston moore are shitting their pants over them...things have gotten a little out of control. That's it. That's all I'm saying...

But aside from that the show was hot. THey`re really good live, they really are. They're exciting, and they look awesome, and it was all distorted and dirty, and that's good. And I'm a nobody, and who am I to criticize Sonic Youth anyway? what, am I crazy?

So, I have to go home and leech my face now. Later.
